Fear Not Yotes, Keep The Faith

The wheels are going to have to fall off. We are going to have to take out team all apart in order to figure out how everything fits together correctly and works best. Did we get excited because we won the first two games and hoped that the season would just magically be wonderful? Yes. Were those two games possibly won by sheer intestinal fortitude by the boys? Yes. Will we still end up in the playoff hunt? Absolutely.

Yes, a win at home in front of a sell-out crowd would have been wonderful. If we could have traded the Kings game where we blew them out 6 to 3 for a tough 2 to 0 loss to Columbus, it would have been ideal. It was a grinding game. This is our style now. The basics of our system were still the same for the home opener. Our fowards were defensively responsible and Bryz was solid. We drew a ton of penalties by our speed and grit. With 3 penalties against us, we were pretty disciplined. Our penalty kill looked solid. These are all steps forward. Our defensemen were a bit lost and we were defeated. It just takes more tweaking. Like I said, we are going to have to take the team apart and put it back together to see how it can work best.

Patience is a virtue and it doesn't seem like we can afford to have patience. Keeping our team through the court battle was a long and tedious path. The path to the playoffs is equally long and tedious. We have to keep the faith and trust that it will play out how it needs to.

Stars of the Week:

1) Goalies! Bryz and LaBarbara had a great opening week. Bryz was a little sketch against power plays on opening night, but our PK didn't help. Barb, you stood on your head for the Buffalo game, props.

2) Radim Vrbata ~ Welcome back. You are our offense. No pressure.

3) Peter Mueller ~ You haven't scored yet Pete, but you are EVERYWHERE on the ice. You are doing the little things.

Overrated ~ Jovo ~ JOVO! You had me fooled! Those first games, you looked like a man who had been rejuvenated by the fountain of youth. Silly me. Pylon!

Underrated ~ Vern Fiddler ~ I knew we got you for faceoffs. Your hits, breakaways, and standing up for teammates is endearing you to me with great quickness.

This week:

Sharks: Marty, our hopes lie with you.

Blues: Good start to the year, we'll have to grind this one out.

Bruins: I will never regret losing Wheeler. He may be with the Rampage right now, but I firmly believe that Tikhonov > Wheeler. You can't teach attitude.

Glendale City Council Article

Frpm the Glendale Star:

A handful of Coyotes fans decked out in jerseys attended the Sept. 22 evening city council meeting to voice their support for keeping the team in Glendale.

And for the second time at the same evening meeting, Phoenix Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes, approached Glendale council to make an appeal for them to support Blackberry billionaire Jim Balsillie's bid in bankruptcy court to buy the team.

Previously, Moyes had attended the Sept. 15 afternoon council workshop, where he also attempted make his pitch for the city to back the Balsillie bid which offers them $50 million, but was not allowed to speak because it was not an agenda item.

At the end of the evening meetings, citizens are allowed up to five minutes to speak on any topic; however, council is not permitted to respond.

“I am a resident of Tolleson, I moved out here because I am a fan of the Coyotes,” said Monique Reaux. “I do not back PSE (Balsillie's bid). Hockey can and will flourish in the desert if you give us a chance.”

Balsillie's intention is to move the team to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

“I do not back the PSE bid,” said Amy Jo. “I bought season tickets after the bankruptcy action was taken. The team will get better. Westgate City Center is gorgeous. I love spending money there. If the Coyotes are gone, I won't go to Westgate any more. I am a Coyotes fan, I am asking you to back the NHL and my team.”

One resident voiced her opinion that it was in the city's best interest to support PSE.

“I have been a Glendale resident for 11 years,” said Marjorie Haberman. “I like Glendale and I like sports. What is the difference to Glendale if the team moves this year or next? Please consider the PSE offer.”

The city owns Jobing.com Arena, which it built in 2001 for $180 million. In November 2001, the city signed a 30-year lease agreement with Coyotes Hockey with a provision the team would pay the city $600 million if it left early with the penalty amount reducing each year.

Moyes had prepared a 23 glossy paged presentation to council telling them the PSE deal made sense.

“Glendale only receives $2 million in hockey revenue each year,” he said. “With the PSE bid, Glendale gets $50 million and the city gets $25 million just for endorsing PSE even if they lose the bid. If the NHL bid is accepted, the team almost certainly leaves and Glendale gets nothing.”

Moyes, who owns Swift Transportation, also threw in a guarantee of employment to all non-arena staff.

“Even with the Great One, we couldn't make it work. No buyer can sustain $35 million in losses each year,” Moyes said. “NHL Commissioner Bettman has said before he wants to see the team go to Las Vegas or Kansas City. The question is, will the team leave with a total loss to the taxpayer or will they leave with a huge taxpayer win, $50 million. Don't pass this up.”

After the meeting adjourned an attorney speaking on behalf of the city, Gary Husk, said he found the remarks to be very self serving and disingenuous.

“Mr. Moyes and his group are calling it a $50 million gift when in fact, there is $450 million owed the city in contractual obligations and penalties if they break the lease at Jobing.com Arena,” Husk said. “The city is quite content to allow the bankruptcy judge to make the determination of the appropriateness and evaluation of the bids.”

The city has been steadfast in its support of the NHL bid for the team.

A ruling by bankruptcy court Judge Redfield T. Baum is expected any day.

The Academy Award goes to Winnik for his Wolf-man performance and an honorable mention to Yandle for Frankenstein. Mueller won praise from critics for his brave cross-gender performance.

Loyalty vs Competitive Spirit

I am very competitive. I am extremely competitive. I am loyal. I am extremely loyal. Sometimes it's very hard to be loyal and competitive at the same time. I love the Coyotes. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE the Sharks and Ducks. I cannot stomach the Kings. This becomes a big problem with fantasy hockey.

I have Anze Kopitar on both of my fantasy teams and Joe Thornton on one of them. And Pronger. Ugh, the self loathe is almost more than I can bear. They were all steals at in the draft rounds in which I took them. My competitive spirit MADE me get the best players available. I tried to balance it out and my loyalty did play a draft role (I took Marty Hanzal on both of my teams with my last pick). Still, the competitiveness makes me root for these people I disdain for my own benefit. Sick right?

I guess there are limits. After all, I would never draft Getzlaff. Not even the prospect of drafting him and benching him all season was enough to make me take him. I guess there are limits, mainly because I have a soul.

Kick ass and take names Coyotes!

Crabby about hockey on TV!

Hockey on TV

No, I don't have DirecTV and am missing Verses. I have Cox Cable and the damn thing keeps going out. This is the second day in a row. If I lose cable during a hockey game, I may lose my shit so there is a cable dude coming out tomorrow. For my safety and the safety of anyone within five miles of me.

Season Opener for the Coyotes

I'll admit that I was a tad nervous about the first game of the year. Our team has been raked over the coals so badly and our meager carcass has been left to bake under the Canadian microscope. I feel badly for the fans because they do love the team. I feel bad for the players because not only has it been said over and over that we have sucked for a long time, they are picked by almost everyone to finish dead last in the West (except for Two Line Pass, luv ya!). It's been bad and the last thing we needed was to have salt rubbed in the wound if we lost the first game.

Triumph feels pretty damn good sometimes, and Saturday was one of those days. Vrbata was happy to be a Coyote again as his Czechs set him up nicely for two goals. Prucha, Vrby, and Marty have been all smiles since camp started (which will help us resign Marty I hope). Uppy was crashing the net like I have never seen a Coyote do. He was fearlessly flying towards the net. Something was definitely going to go in the net, and sometimes that something was Uppy.

But I'm excited! Uppy, you are going to make me like you this year, I can tell! Lombo had a great game and he was flying high too. 11 of the 18 Coyote skaters had a point. Hell, even Winnik scored. Winnik? Yes, Winnik. You better keep it up Winnie the Pooh or I'll be calling for Joel Perrault to take your job (who is kicking butt with the Rampage already).

Yes, it was just the Kings we beat and we have way bigger fishies to fry this year, but every journey starts with a single step and our first step was kicking the Kings' ass. It went a long way to healing us.

Saturday, October 10th, 2009. The Coyotes are having a WhiteOut to celebrate staying in AZ. Yours truly may be rocking some very special hair. Come check it out. I'll be in Sec 111, row C by the visitors penalty box. SO EXCITED!

LET'S GO COYOTES!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantasy Hockey - Week 1

I was a little nervous about playing fantasy hockey in On the Forecheck's league because I had never done it before. But heeeeeeeeeey check this crap out!!!!!

Who would name their team the "Suck It Balsillies"? :D

I've been sooooo lazy but.....

here are my signs from the LA Kings preseason game, the Ducks preseason game, and best of all, the Sharks preseason game. HEY JOE! HE'S GONNA GET YOU! LOOKOUT JOE!! HEY JOE!!!!

Devin Senoguchi gave me the dirtiest look ever for my Thornton sign. Marty must have liked it because he tapped the glass with his stick when he skated by and he flipped me a puck. Woot!

ESPN Fantasy Team

I made a fantasy hockey league for a bunch of the Coyotes fans (and one Islanders fan). We did the draft today. I went over to the 'Nuck house where the three of us did out draft together. Then they made a yummy dinner. Yay!

So anyways, I LOVE my team!

Team Michalek: Jeff Carter, Eric Staal, Milan Lucic, Patrick Sharp, Milan Mickalek, Mikko Koivu, Ales Hemsky, Alex Tanguay, Jay Bouwmeester, Zbynek Michalek, Victor Hedman, Kris Letang, Joe Corvo, Anze Kopitar, Brenden Shannahan, Jim Vandermeer, Tomas Kaberle, Andrew Cogliano, Enver Lisin, Cam Ward, and Henrik Lundqvist. Oh yeah, and Martin Hanzal!!!

Z Alert!

So today I took some comp time off work to go to the informal camp at Alltel. So I pull up and park and this guy pulls in next to me in a Mercedes. I didn't really look at him and I got out of my car. When he got out, I was like OMG Z! Ok, I didn't say that. I said Z! How was your summer? He was super nice. Like an idiot, when I was texting Heather, my hands were literally shaking. I'm not that impressed with most hockey players, but it was Z! Super cool time.

The camp was good. Peter, Jonas, Yandle, Jovo, Bryz, Aucoin, Turris, Spina, Nick Ross, Z (!), Reino, Fridge, and a few others were there. Honestly, it was just so nice to hear the swish of the blades again. Turris may be coming back into my good graces after a cute incident that shall not be spoken of.

It was a good day. It was a good day, indeed.

The Looooong Hockey Survey

What is the first jersey you ever owned?
A Peter Mueller jersey. <3>

What is the last piece of hockey memorabilia – jerseys, cards, figurines, etc. – you purchased?
Game used, autographed Martin Hanzal stick

Keep your ticket stubs or throw them away?
I keep 'em

Who has the more intriguing hair – Brian Engblom or Barry Melrose?
This isn't even a contest. Ask me about Melrose and Donald Trump.

Who is the most underrated player in the league? The most overrated?
Overrated: Sydney Crysby ~ honey you aren't even the best player on your team

Underrated: Eric Staal. The man gets like 5 pts a game.

What one rule or penalty would you add?

If you instigate a fight and end up losing, you get thrown out of the game :P

Forget predictions and rankings and who finished where last year – all logic aside, what two teams (one East, one West) would you love to see compete for the Cup this year?
Caps and 'Hawks

Complete this sentence: The next Winter Classic should be between the Phx and Avs and take place in Denver

More disturbing image – Crosby with a “mustache” or Crosby in bed with the Cup?
Cindy, you are not George Parros. Stop pretendin'

Which team has the best mascot?
Howler of course

Whose press conference would you rather listen to – John Tortorella, Bruce Boudreau or Ron Wilson?
Tortorella is funnily inappropriate

Who is your favorite all-time player? Who is your favorite active player?
Eek! Ummm I really love Ovie and Doan. Doan is my all-time fav and Ovie is my active (even tho they are both active?)

Do you read team-specific blogs about teams other than your own? Which ones and why?
I read Preds on the Glass and The View from 111 and Psycho Puck Lady. The Predator fans are some of the best fans ever and Psycho Puck Lady just cracks me up.

Do you think the NHL will ever put a team in Hamilton, Kansas City and/or Las Vegas?
Christ I hope it isn't soon if they do.

Everyone’s got a guilty pleasure – what player and/or team do you like that you really shouldn’t?
Jonas Hiller. The Shame! I haaaaaaaaaaaate the Ducks but I love Hiller.

What team has improved the most this summer?
The Flyers gooned up nicely.

What is your favorite hockey memory?
Wow I'm gonna have to go with the LA game last year. Awesomeness.

Which team has the worst jersey? How about the worst third/specialty jersey?
I hate the Flames jersey.

Roll out your favorite homemade player nickname(s).
Baby Dane (Mikkel Boedker) Oh-no-Jo-vo (Ed Jovanovsky) Yo-Jo (Jonas Ahnelov)

If you could move any uprooted team (e.g. Quebec Nordiques, Hartford Whalers, etc.) back to their original home, which one would you move?
None. Fuck that noise!

What will Jeremy Roenick’s next career move be?
He'll end up flapping his jaws on TV and that's how God punishes us for being sinful.

Have you ever stopped rooting for one hockey team and started rooting for another? If so, what made you switch?
Nope!

Who had the better mug shot, Kane or Finley?
Patrick Kane channeled Spencer Pratt. Truly disturbing.

Enough of this geography crap; toss out the current divisions and propose a new divisional alignment for the league.
Let's put the Yotes, Avs, Stars, Lightning, and Panthers in one. Phx would actually win!

Do you follow other sports besides hockey or are you a one-sport fan?
I like the NFL, college basketball, and some NBA.

Which free agent acquisition do you think will have the biggest impact on his new team?
Well, I’m hoping all the FA’s the Habs got might do something.

Of the five lottery teams last season (Tampa, Atlanta, NY Islanders, Phoenix, Colorado) which one(s) will make the playoffs this year?
Ugh. Better be the Yotes! The Islanders have really improved but the east is too deep

What is your favorite hockey reference in a non-hockey movie/TV episode? e.g. Lisa and Bart Simpson playing hockey, the famous video game scene from Swingers, etc.
Booth played hockey on Bones!

What player from the other 29 teams would you love to have on your team?
Hmm. This is insanely difficult! I love Ovie, but I'd take Geno cuz he passes the puck!

Superlative time!
• Best pure goal scorer – Ovie
• Worst referee – Driscoll
• Goalie when you need one save – Hiller ended the year well
• The guy a lot of people have never heard of (but should have) – Dude, Marty Hanzal!
• When it gets chippy – Carcillo!
• Coach for a must-win game – Not Wayne
• Get under your skin guy – Clutterbuck or Oshie
• The home crowd – Nuck fans
• Worst arena to play in as a visitor – IDK
• Worst arena to play in as the home team – IDK

And finally, quick picks. Do you prefer:
• Crosby or Ovechkin? Ovie
• Ovechkin or Malkin? Eek! Malkin (But I still <3 you Ovie!)
• Overtime or shootout? Isn't there a Russian option to pick? Russian roulette?
• 4-on-3 or 5-on-4? 4 on 3
• Sakic or Yzerman? Yzerman would never lose an appendage in a snow blower
• Kerry Fraser or Bill McCreary? Neither
• Montreal Forum or Maple Leaf Gardens? Missed that era too
• Roy or Brodeur? Roy. He's got attitude
• Touch-up icing or no-touch icing? Touch-up
• Top shelf or five hole? five hole
• Eddie Olczyk or Pierre McGuire? I hate Pierre
• Slapshot or wrist shot? Wrist shot
• Orr or Coffey? Orr
• Coffee or tea? Water!
• Canada or Russia? Ovie and Malkin? Dude, Russia
• Miracle or Mighty Ducks? Miracle rocks my socks.

Hockey Vs. Baseball

So I'm headed out to a Diamondbacks game today and I'm not super excited. The team is horrible and is better at throwing games and leads away than the Yotes are!

5 reasons hockey is better than baseball:

1. The fans. I've NEVER gotten crap from a hockey fan for yelling for the players. And this is shocking cuz I yell all the time at hockey. The Dbacks game I went to in May? I yelled THREE times for Chipper Jones and the lady next to me says, can you warn me so I can plug my ears? Ummm baseball sucks.

2. Speed. I may actually catch a catnap at the game today. It takes for-ev-er for an at-bat, especially if the fool keeps fouling off the ball. Hockey = constant motion. There is more consistent action during an intermission of Coyotes hockey than there is in a Dbacks game.

3. Who the players are. Shane Doan would never turn down a kid getting an autograph. Mark Reynolds had to because they *charge* for autographs. NHL players are real people. They are never short with their fans. Get over yourselves baseball players, must be nice to spend half of your game sitting on your butts in the dugout while hockey players get to sit down for like 2 minutes at a time.

4. Expressions of anger. The pitcher throws a ball at another player on purpose. What a pansy thing to do. In hockey if you are mad at that man, you punch him like a real man.

5. Playoff beards. Nothing like some good lookin men growing some playoff beards so their women are too scared or disgusted to try the hook-up because the boys don't wanna mess with their mojo during the playoffs.

I'm off to get ready for the game. I can't wait for hockey season. The end.

Showdown: Aug 5th

So one bid is in to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix and one "letter of intent". We all know how Baum feels about anything short of a real bid, but maybe the other group will get their crap together before Aug 5th, which is the auction. I'm slightly worried about this other group, who shall be referred to as the "Non-Jerrys".

The Non-Jerrys said that they have ideas that are "out of the box". That could be amazing or it could be that the idiots want to play half the home games somewhere else, such as Hamilton. How could that possibly be good for the boys? Like they don't have enough travel during the year, now they want them to have to either have a home in Hamilton or stay in hotels...again? Seriously? Stupid. Also, they indicated that they definitely want to keep Gretz around. I'm not against keeping him around, but can he just be someone that we trot out for special occasions? Can he be banned from the bench area?

I have much more hope if Jerry Reinsdorf is the new owner. He's a proven winner and knows that it takes. *Crosses my fingers*

Peter Mueller. Version 7.21

So I've always had a pretty bad attitude about Scottsdale. Seems like a pretty snobby place. Greg asked me if I wanted to go to a concert at a bar and since I had nothing else going on, I figured what the hell? So we show our IDs, walk in, and immediately, I noticed this guy standing at the bar. He had jeans and a dark gray t-shirt on, and had his hat pulled down pretty low. I walked past him and did a semi-double take. Then I said to Greg, I think I recognize that guy. I walked back towards him and was 85% sure I knew who it was. So I touched his shoulder and said, "Are you Peter?". He looks at me and is like "yeah, why?". I just smiled at him and was like, "I thought it was you, I'm a big Coyotes fan." He asked me what my name was and asked me if I was there for the show and he said he was a huge fan of the band. I asked him about his tattoos and he gave me a tour of all of his arm tattoos (super cool) and introduced me to his tattoo guy who was actually there with him (who gave me cards so lemme know if you want a tattoo by Peter's dude). I told him I was born in and went to grad school in MN and he's like oh you're a dragon! Greg came over and I introduced Greg to Peter. Greg asked Peter what other kinds of music he was into and Peter mentioned Skillet (who I love). I asked Peter if he was excited about Vrbata coming back and he said oh yeah, he's a great player. I said Marty will be excited and Pete said, yeah they're like best friends. So the music was gonna start so he said he hoped we enjoyed the show and Greg & I went into the stage area.

So Peter ended up being shuffled back in the crowd and stood a couple people away from me. The people between us left and I asked him if I could buy him a drink. He said he was still recovering from his buddy being in town this weekend so he was sticking to non-alcohol tonight. I asked him if he got recognized often and he said he rarely does but doesn't really mind when he does. I said he'd probably feel different if it happened all the time and he agreed that it'd suck to be in a Canadian city. I said, damn you almost ended up in one and I woulda been pissed if they left.

So when I was walking out to use my phone outside, Peter kinda stopped me and said, hey, did you like the band. And I told him yeah, they were pretty great. Then when I was outside on my phone I saw him get in his car to leave. When he drove by I turned around and he waved so I waved back at him.

Umm, he's super nice.

Yotes July Update

The Schedule came out and we are playing Phoenix. Yay! With 18 home Saturday night games, it looks like the NHL scheduler gave us a little love. We also have an epic 6 game home-stand in January. We start on the road and end on the road, but I'm just glad we have a team at this point!

Prospect Camp:

Staal, other than endurance-wise, looked good. He's bigger and had some nice shots. Larssen had impressive movement with the puck and a great shot for a D-man. On a couple seperate occasions he put two or three in a row past the goalie. Brown: He's rough away from the puck and I'm not talking about his skills. He uses his body physically and has a Doan-esque feel. Darling is a monster in the net, a big skinny monster! Ahnelov: I hope to see you up with the big boys all year.

Moves:

There seems to be a direct line from the Rangers to us and from us to the Flames. We've picked up Lauri Korpikoski for Enver Lisin. It was a sad day indeed when our little Russian blur left us. He seemed to be a flight risk for Russia and Korpikoski seems to have a big potential upside, but we need more than potential in order to keep our team.

Prust, McGratten, and Dawes to the Flames. Ummmm ok bye. None of these are huge losses, however we are currently without an 'enforcer' to protect our smaller Pups. Please don't rely on Winnik to do it (who is pushing to arbitration by the way).

We picked up Aucoin, which makes me excited that we could be trading Jovo because they have similar styles, except Aucoin actually plays defense. Fiddler came in for faceoffs and PK. All in all, it was a sad free agency day for us because we only picked up these two and LA-Barbie (Mo's nickname for LaBarbara).

We resigned Yandle for two years. We resigned Prucha for two years (thanks for signing early, now I love you more for not making me worry!). Upshall, why are you lagging behind? No one will give you the ice time we will!

I was sad that Lindstrom didn't get an offer from us but glad he signed up in Russia. Bye Joakim.

Everyone is still pretty focused on the bankruptcy case. It's a legal education I didn't ask for or want, but alas, life is full of unexpected surprises.

Tumult

The definition of tumult is: highly distressing agitation of the mind or feeling; turbulent mental or emotional disturbance. My last blog said that the Coyotes would be leaving over my dead body. Well, three days after I posted, Moyes took the Yotes into bankruptcy in order to refill is own personal coffers. The offer maker? The Blackberry man.

It is hard to describe what happened. In those first few days, it was bleak. It seemed like there was so little anyone could do to stop this madness. How were a handful of individuals going to do anything against 212 million? Sadness. That man was going to take my team away from me.

Then, the rebel forces began to connect. Via Facebook no less! We had an impromptu rally. I met my two neighbors who are kickass! The Save the Coyotes Coalition was formed. I met more fans. Still it would be tough for us to make a dent in 212 million.

Enter one PISSED off NHL front office. Gary Bettemen, Bill Daly, Frank Brown, and their people stood up and said: Excuse me? You're taking the team where? So we had NHL support.

What about the players? When I went home in June, I had a dream that Shane Doan was at my Dad's farm and I was walking with him. I was asking him, do you want to stay? The players were quiet for so long. It was disconcerting. We love them. Do they love us enough to want to stay? Shane made some really strong statements in favor of staying. Peter wants to stay. The other boys are starting to talk about it. So we had most of the players.

Fans, NHL bigwigs, and players want to be in Phoenix. It is looking good. I bought season tickets in order to be committed to the team. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Playoffs = Exciting. Yotes Leaving = Over My Dead Body

First things first, because they playoffs are currently real, I will start there.

Caps/Pens:

I'm pretty psyched that the Caps won their series. I guess I just needed to prioritize hockey in my life for them to feel like they can win! The Caps and Pens is basically a hugely dream series because Cindy Crysby and Ovie are supposedly the best two players in the game. I don't know how that can be when Cindy isn't even the best player on his team (Hi Evgeni, congrats on that Art Ross!!!) Ovie was important in the Rangers series because he worked his butt off, but he didn't offensively take over any games.

Prediction: Caps in 7.... ?

Van / Chi:

I don't love either of these teams. My secret, ok not so secret, hope is that they will beat each other into a pulp that will be cleaned up by someone in the next round.

Prediction: Body Parts from Vancouver in 6

Deadwings/Ducks:

Ugh. I hate the western conference other than my team. I am liking Jonas Hiller now because he's a young dude that has faced some pretty good offense and has withstood it. However, I can't root for the Ducks because then I'd have to committ suicide.

Prediction: The rich kids in 6

Bruins/Caro:

Eric Staal. I'm sorry. You were man enough to beat New Jersey pretty much with just your line, but there is this big ass Slovakian dude on their team and I think he wants to eat you like some ribs babe.

Prediction: The man eaters in 6

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo OVIE!

Ok, now for the Coyotes. So it's starting to look like they may be moved after next season if we don't get our heads out of our asses and buy some tickets people. I'm guilty of using stubhub to get tickets instead of buying seats that aren't already paid for. I'm super guilty! But we have to stop! We need to go and spend some cash (this from the girl who lost her job this year!). The fans need to do their part. Bring your friends to hockey. They'll get hooked because seriously, it's the fastest, most exciting sport to watch live! Go Fans!

Players, I need you to do your part. I need some of you (umm #88) to haul ass EVERY game. Play like you don't wanna move all ur shit to Canada because it's really damn cold up there. Play like you don't want to get into a really cold car to drive to the arena because you're not in the warm Phoenix winter anymore.

Rich ass Scottsdale people: I need one of you to step up and buy the damn team. Wouldn't your rich friends think it's cool that you "own" hockey players?

City of Glendale: Fix the damn lease deal. If we lose the team, we won't EVER get another one and if you douches are the cause, I'll make you miserable.

*Sigh* This makes me sad.

Playoffs..... Ouch.

Dearest Alexander,

I must say that I feel responsible. I picked the Caps as my playoff team mainly because of your tough Russian exterior and creamy center. Alas, I have not been able to watch either of your opening games. I've had to work and me being a Pacific girl and you being an Eastern dude, you play at 4pm my time! And honestly, it's the Rangers. I figured you had this one in the bag and I'd have to work on my work schedule for your second round games.

It's my fault. I haven't been there, supporting you with my non-jinxing eyes. Ugh.

Love,

The Scapegoat

What We Need to be a Playoff Team

I love my Coyotes. I really do. But we need some changes.

Coaches: Wayne is going to be the coach. I'm resigned to that fact. The Great One is about the only thing keeping the 'Yotes in the Desert at this point, so whatever, he can continue on as coach, I guess. We need someone who can formulate a simplified, effective power play. Wayne was a great player, but a master power play planner he is NOT. Grant, I <3>

Fowards: We have a great core.
Shane Doan is ridiculous. Amazing attitude, dedication, skill.

Lombo and Upshall work great together. Sign Scottie damnit!

Prucha is the bravest dude I've ever seen in front of the net. He gets his Czech butt beat and comes back for more. Sign him. NOW!

Mueller. I know you have it in you. You're 21 and have the pressure of a whole team and their offensive woes on you. You'll shake it off next year.

Hanzal: The trick to getting this defensive stud to score is to have his parents in the stands. All games without parents in the stands: 8 goals. 1 game with parents in the stands: 3 goals. We need to relocate the Hanzal's to Phoenix and get them some season tickets.

Enver! I would write amazing things here about how I love to watch your killer moves but I can't. You skate so fast I can't see them when you do them. I have to wait for the replays to admire your crazy Russian KGB assassin skills.

Reino and Winnik. You both are free agents. Reino, Shane loves you so I think we should keep you. Winnik, I'm sorry, I need a spot for Joel Perrault to come up from San Antonio so you're toast. Plus, some fans have said you aren't super nice. Coyotes love their fans. Period.

Fedoruk and Dawes. Sky Harbor Airport. I can get you directions. Maybe I can package one of you with Prust and deal you out.

The Coyote Pups. Teek. Kyle. Baby Dane (Mikkel). If I have to take only 2 of the 3 of you, Kyle, you're going down to San Antonio. Mikkel is fast and is big enough to check. Teek is great defensively, has pretty good hands, and is killer on the shootouts (God knows we need someone who is besides Shane). Sorry Kyle, I need Mueller to go back to Center and that leaves you in Texas.

Joakim. My IKEA player. You got hosed when the new dudes arrived. You have promise, but I'm on the fence about you. Please resign for cheap so I can have guilt-free adoration of you again next year?

Defense:

Michalek: Z. You are what every D-man on our team should aspire to be. I need to get you some Icy Hot and armor-plated pads.

Yandle: You're coming along well. If you get those slip-ups and turnovers under control, you will be great. Your offensive up-side and outlet passes are amazing. Plus we need someone who continually gives the media quotes and seriously, you never stop talking :P

Sauer: Minnesota! Woot! You're tough. You're a stay at home D-man and work well with Z. Welcome to your long-term home.

Klee: I love how you flip upside down stretching during warmups. You're a good dude and I wanna resign you next year. Please be cheap :)

Kalinen: I don't really know how to spell your name. That doesn't bode well. You're a good defensemen. I need a spot for Jonas to come up from San Antonio. You had a bad rep in New York.

Jovo: 6.5 million. If I could get anyone to take your salary, you'd be long gone.

Goalies:

Bryz: Honey you need to get it together when the other team scores twice. I'll try to get you some defensive support.

Montoya: Wow. Please resign.

Playoff Days 1 & 2

So it turns out that I control the NHL playoffs. But not in a pleasant way. Whoever I want to win...... LOSES! Sharks, Flyers, Habs, and Caps! Alex, Ovie, AO, #8, where did we go wrong?!?!

The Rangers beat the Caps. Apparently that whole goalie position turns out to be important. Who would have thought? Ovie scored, but his supporting cast left a little to be desired. Caps, I picked you as my playoff team because my Coyotes didn't make it. I didn't realize that I was a hex. Damnit!

Bruins beat the Habs. Ok, everyone thought this would happen, but I held out hope because I wanted so badly for Carey Price to be great. Mainly because he's Shane Doan's cousin, so he must be a direct decendent of Jesus.

Pens over Flyers. Philly. What. the. hell.? I know you somewhat caved at the end of the year. I know the Pens were in it for the Cup last year and have two of the three greatest players in the game right now. But couldn't you have lost in a slightly more pretty way? And Danny Carcillo. SHAME! You are a former Coyote. ACT LIKE IT! (Our GM in Phoenix stole Scottie Upshall AND a 2nd round pick for Carcillo and Philly got robbed people).

Sharks. I don't like you. But I HATE the Ducks. So Sharks, I need you to get it in gear. Hiller was super tough in goal, but the Presidents Trophy winners need to get the job done at home or perish. You better not perish because I hate the Ducks. Getzlaff, Pronger, and Perry club baby seals in the off-season as far as I'm concerned.

Nucks and Blues. I don't have a preference either way. The Blues were a great story getting into the post-season. Everyone kisses Roberto's ass so it makes me not love the Nucks. The freakish twins really did a number on the Blues defense so I think they are serious trouble.

Calgary and Chicago. THANK GOD the Blackhawks beat Olli Jokinen. I never thought I'd ever say thank god the Blackhawks won. I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. Phoenix did a good job of stealing Matt Lombardi away from Calgary with a 1st round pick. We also got Prust but his value remains to be seen. I would say Go Chicago, but then I'd have to cut my own tongue out, so I'll go with BOOOO Calgary!

Devils and Carolina ~ I love me some University of North Dakota players and Zach Parise is one of the best. Many pick Carolina in this series and NJ faded down the stretch, but it's not currently Hurricane season and I don't see a storm cloud in the sky.

Detriot/Columbus. I'm a sucker for rookies. I love Steve Mason. I hate Detriot. It doesn't look good for the Blue Jackets, but I'm holding out for a miracle.
