Fear Not Yotes, Keep The Faith

The wheels are going to have to fall off. We are going to have to take out team all apart in order to figure out how everything fits together correctly and works best. Did we get excited because we won the first two games and hoped that the season would just magically be wonderful? Yes. Were those two games possibly won by sheer intestinal fortitude by the boys? Yes. Will we still end up in the playoff hunt? Absolutely.

Yes, a win at home in front of a sell-out crowd would have been wonderful. If we could have traded the Kings game where we blew them out 6 to 3 for a tough 2 to 0 loss to Columbus, it would have been ideal. It was a grinding game. This is our style now. The basics of our system were still the same for the home opener. Our fowards were defensively responsible and Bryz was solid. We drew a ton of penalties by our speed and grit. With 3 penalties against us, we were pretty disciplined. Our penalty kill looked solid. These are all steps forward. Our defensemen were a bit lost and we were defeated. It just takes more tweaking. Like I said, we are going to have to take the team apart and put it back together to see how it can work best.

Patience is a virtue and it doesn't seem like we can afford to have patience. Keeping our team through the court battle was a long and tedious path. The path to the playoffs is equally long and tedious. We have to keep the faith and trust that it will play out how it needs to.

Stars of the Week:

1) Goalies! Bryz and LaBarbara had a great opening week. Bryz was a little sketch against power plays on opening night, but our PK didn't help. Barb, you stood on your head for the Buffalo game, props.

2) Radim Vrbata ~ Welcome back. You are our offense. No pressure.

3) Peter Mueller ~ You haven't scored yet Pete, but you are EVERYWHERE on the ice. You are doing the little things.

Overrated ~ Jovo ~ JOVO! You had me fooled! Those first games, you looked like a man who had been rejuvenated by the fountain of youth. Silly me. Pylon!

Underrated ~ Vern Fiddler ~ I knew we got you for faceoffs. Your hits, breakaways, and standing up for teammates is endearing you to me with great quickness.

This week:

Sharks: Marty, our hopes lie with you.

Blues: Good start to the year, we'll have to grind this one out.

Bruins: I will never regret losing Wheeler. He may be with the Rampage right now, but I firmly believe that Tikhonov > Wheeler. You can't teach attitude.

Glendale City Council Article

Frpm the Glendale Star:

A handful of Coyotes fans decked out in jerseys attended the Sept. 22 evening city council meeting to voice their support for keeping the team in Glendale.

And for the second time at the same evening meeting, Phoenix Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes, approached Glendale council to make an appeal for them to support Blackberry billionaire Jim Balsillie's bid in bankruptcy court to buy the team.

Previously, Moyes had attended the Sept. 15 afternoon council workshop, where he also attempted make his pitch for the city to back the Balsillie bid which offers them $50 million, but was not allowed to speak because it was not an agenda item.

At the end of the evening meetings, citizens are allowed up to five minutes to speak on any topic; however, council is not permitted to respond.

“I am a resident of Tolleson, I moved out here because I am a fan of the Coyotes,” said Monique Reaux. “I do not back PSE (Balsillie's bid). Hockey can and will flourish in the desert if you give us a chance.”

Balsillie's intention is to move the team to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

“I do not back the PSE bid,” said Amy Jo. “I bought season tickets after the bankruptcy action was taken. The team will get better. Westgate City Center is gorgeous. I love spending money there. If the Coyotes are gone, I won't go to Westgate any more. I am a Coyotes fan, I am asking you to back the NHL and my team.”

One resident voiced her opinion that it was in the city's best interest to support PSE.

“I have been a Glendale resident for 11 years,” said Marjorie Haberman. “I like Glendale and I like sports. What is the difference to Glendale if the team moves this year or next? Please consider the PSE offer.”

The city owns Jobing.com Arena, which it built in 2001 for $180 million. In November 2001, the city signed a 30-year lease agreement with Coyotes Hockey with a provision the team would pay the city $600 million if it left early with the penalty amount reducing each year.

Moyes had prepared a 23 glossy paged presentation to council telling them the PSE deal made sense.

“Glendale only receives $2 million in hockey revenue each year,” he said. “With the PSE bid, Glendale gets $50 million and the city gets $25 million just for endorsing PSE even if they lose the bid. If the NHL bid is accepted, the team almost certainly leaves and Glendale gets nothing.”

Moyes, who owns Swift Transportation, also threw in a guarantee of employment to all non-arena staff.

“Even with the Great One, we couldn't make it work. No buyer can sustain $35 million in losses each year,” Moyes said. “NHL Commissioner Bettman has said before he wants to see the team go to Las Vegas or Kansas City. The question is, will the team leave with a total loss to the taxpayer or will they leave with a huge taxpayer win, $50 million. Don't pass this up.”

After the meeting adjourned an attorney speaking on behalf of the city, Gary Husk, said he found the remarks to be very self serving and disingenuous.

“Mr. Moyes and his group are calling it a $50 million gift when in fact, there is $450 million owed the city in contractual obligations and penalties if they break the lease at Jobing.com Arena,” Husk said. “The city is quite content to allow the bankruptcy judge to make the determination of the appropriateness and evaluation of the bids.”

The city has been steadfast in its support of the NHL bid for the team.

A ruling by bankruptcy court Judge Redfield T. Baum is expected any day.

The Academy Award goes to Winnik for his Wolf-man performance and an honorable mention to Yandle for Frankenstein. Mueller won praise from critics for his brave cross-gender performance.

Loyalty vs Competitive Spirit

I am very competitive. I am extremely competitive. I am loyal. I am extremely loyal. Sometimes it's very hard to be loyal and competitive at the same time. I love the Coyotes. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE the Sharks and Ducks. I cannot stomach the Kings. This becomes a big problem with fantasy hockey.

I have Anze Kopitar on both of my fantasy teams and Joe Thornton on one of them. And Pronger. Ugh, the self loathe is almost more than I can bear. They were all steals at in the draft rounds in which I took them. My competitive spirit MADE me get the best players available. I tried to balance it out and my loyalty did play a draft role (I took Marty Hanzal on both of my teams with my last pick). Still, the competitiveness makes me root for these people I disdain for my own benefit. Sick right?

I guess there are limits. After all, I would never draft Getzlaff. Not even the prospect of drafting him and benching him all season was enough to make me take him. I guess there are limits, mainly because I have a soul.

Kick ass and take names Coyotes!

Crabby about hockey on TV!

Hockey on TV

No, I don't have DirecTV and am missing Verses. I have Cox Cable and the damn thing keeps going out. This is the second day in a row. If I lose cable during a hockey game, I may lose my shit so there is a cable dude coming out tomorrow. For my safety and the safety of anyone within five miles of me.

Season Opener for the Coyotes

I'll admit that I was a tad nervous about the first game of the year. Our team has been raked over the coals so badly and our meager carcass has been left to bake under the Canadian microscope. I feel badly for the fans because they do love the team. I feel bad for the players because not only has it been said over and over that we have sucked for a long time, they are picked by almost everyone to finish dead last in the West (except for Two Line Pass, luv ya!). It's been bad and the last thing we needed was to have salt rubbed in the wound if we lost the first game.

Triumph feels pretty damn good sometimes, and Saturday was one of those days. Vrbata was happy to be a Coyote again as his Czechs set him up nicely for two goals. Prucha, Vrby, and Marty have been all smiles since camp started (which will help us resign Marty I hope). Uppy was crashing the net like I have never seen a Coyote do. He was fearlessly flying towards the net. Something was definitely going to go in the net, and sometimes that something was Uppy.

But I'm excited! Uppy, you are going to make me like you this year, I can tell! Lombo had a great game and he was flying high too. 11 of the 18 Coyote skaters had a point. Hell, even Winnik scored. Winnik? Yes, Winnik. You better keep it up Winnie the Pooh or I'll be calling for Joel Perrault to take your job (who is kicking butt with the Rampage already).

Yes, it was just the Kings we beat and we have way bigger fishies to fry this year, but every journey starts with a single step and our first step was kicking the Kings' ass. It went a long way to healing us.

Saturday, October 10th, 2009. The Coyotes are having a WhiteOut to celebrate staying in AZ. Yours truly may be rocking some very special hair. Come check it out. I'll be in Sec 111, row C by the visitors penalty box. SO EXCITED!

LET'S GO COYOTES!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantasy Hockey - Week 1

I was a little nervous about playing fantasy hockey in On the Forecheck's league because I had never done it before. But heeeeeeeeeey check this crap out!!!!!

Who would name their team the "Suck It Balsillies"? :D

I've been sooooo lazy but.....

here are my signs from the LA Kings preseason game, the Ducks preseason game, and best of all, the Sharks preseason game. HEY JOE! HE'S GONNA GET YOU! LOOKOUT JOE!! HEY JOE!!!!

Devin Senoguchi gave me the dirtiest look ever for my Thornton sign. Marty must have liked it because he tapped the glass with his stick when he skated by and he flipped me a puck. Woot!
